Access to specialized neurosurgical care remains a significant challenge in many low-resource settings, often resulting in delayed treatment and preventable complications for patients with complex neurological conditions. In response to this gap, the Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Techiman, in collaboration with Operation International, implemented a free, targeted Neuro-Surgical Outreach Mission aimed at expanding access to safe, timely, and high-quality surgical interventions.

Conducted from April 27 to April 30, 2026, this intensive program delivered critical neurosurgical care to 22 patients, addressing a spectrum of congenital and degenerative conditions that require specialized expertise and infrastructure.

Restoring Hope Through Expert Care:

Following a comprehensive screening and triage process that commenced in mid-March, multidisciplinary surgical teams worked with precision and dedication to address a range of congenital and degenerative neurological conditions.

Key areas of intervention included:

  • Paediatric Conditions: Hydrocephalus, Encephalocoele, and Spina Bifida
  • Spinal Disorders: Lumbar Canal Stenosis, Cervical Spondylosis, Disc Prolapse, and Spondylolisthesis. Each procedure represents not just a clinical success, but a renewed opportunity for improved quality of life for patients and their families, many of whom traveled from across the country to benefit from this initiative.

A Strong Partnership Delivering Impact

The success of this mission underscores the strength of international collaboration. By integrating the expertise of volunteer specialists from Operation International with the skilled clinical teams at Holy Family Catholic Hospital, the mission was able to deliver complex surgical interventions supported by high standards of perioperative and post-operative care.

“Our mission has always been to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility. Seeing 22 individuals now on the path to recovery is the greatest reward for this collaboration.”

Sustaining Care Beyond Surgery

While the surgical phase has been successfully completed, patient care continues through structured follow-up, rehabilitation, and ongoing clinical support to ensure optimal recovery outcomes.

Holy Family Catholic Hospital remains committed to delivering holistic, high-quality healthcare and expanding access to specialized medical services through strategic partnerships and outreach initiatives.
