LAUNCHING OF GHANA COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS TRAINING CENTER IN HOLY FAMILY HOSPITAL-TECHIMAN

The Holy Family Hospital, Techiman is a Secondary Level facility in the Bono East Region of Ghana accredited by HeFRA and a member of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and the Catholic Health Service Trust-Ghana (CHST).

As an accredited center for training of House Officers, Emergency Nurses, PA’s, Nurses and Midwives interns, Anaesthetists, the Hospital is also noted as a site for revision by foreign trained medical students for the MDC exams.

In an attempt to broaden the scope of postgraduate training in the Tertiary hospitals in the country, the Holy Family Hospital, Techiman in collaboration with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) and Medical Support In Partnership (MSIP) on 6th November, 2023 had a grand launch of the first training center aside the traditional teaching hospital to train Fellows and Members in OBGY and Paediatrics with 7 trainees already enrolled onto various programmes since the commencement of the center in July.

The event assembled a host of dignitaries namely, the Bishop of Techiman Diocese, the Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Council, Diocesan Health Service (DHS) Board Chair, Rector-GCPS, Council Chair-GCPS, Executive Director-CHAG, Director-CHST, Coordinator of MSIP and his team, Prof. Ibrahim Alkatout - Kiel University, Regional Director of Health Services, Chancellor of Techiman Diocese, Municipal Director of Health Services, DHS Director etc.

This innovative intervention by the GCPS of expanding the scope of Fellowship training programmes outside of the realms of the traditional purpose-built Teaching Hospitals is meant to produce various benefits including;

1. Attracting highly specialized members of the college (fellows) through training

2. Retention of highly specialized human resource

3. Effective quality service delivery

4. Boosting the confidence and trust in service provision and

5. Bridging the health inequality gaps between the cities and the rural areas
